Zhang Qisheng, an academician, was born in 1939 and graduated from the Wood Processing Specialty of Nanjing Forestry College in 1961. He has been working on the research and teaching of wood & bamboo processing & utilization and agricultural & forestry biomass resources utilization permanently, and is the explorer in the bamboo industrial utilization field both in China and in the world. He was elected as the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1997. He is now a professor and doctorial tutor of Nanjing Forestry University. Scientific research projects he has presided over or he has participated in have won a second-rate and a third-rate National Award for Technological Invention, a first-rate National Award for Technological Progress (as the third participant), 4 second-rate National Awards for Technological Progress, and many provincial or ministerial-level prizes.
Professor Zhang has published than 100 academic papers and 8 translations books; awarded more than 20 patents for invention; and trained more than 30 master and doctoral students. He won numerous awards for his outstanding achievements and contributions. He was named a National Advanced Young-Middle Expert and was awarded a National Excellent Worker of Torch Science and Technology, a National Advanced Worker for Expansion of Science and Technology as well as other honors.
